Shelly L. Smits

  Shelly L. Smits, age 46, of Kaukauna, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2016. Shelly was born on March 23, 1970 the daughter of Bernie and Sharon (Gavaert) Hackel.  She was presently employed at Thrivent Financial where she had worked for over 16 years.  Shelly was an avid Packers and Brewers fan as well as an enthusiastic supporter of local sporting events.  She was a bargain shopper who enjoyed traveling and going to see bands.  She especially enjoyed eighties music. 

  Shelly is survived by her sons; Brandon (fiance’ Rachelle Zoromski) Smits, and Hunter Smits; her parents, Bernie and Sharon Hackel; her sister, Kathy (Paul) Vander Wielen, her brother, Scott (Michele) Hackel and her significant other Richard Kettner.  She is also survived by her nieces and nephews; Haley and Dylan Hackel, Amanda (Travis) Brockman and Kyle (Amy) Vander Wielen.  Shelly was very much looking forward to the arrival of her first grandchild.  She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Helen and Sylvan Gavaert and Margaret and Anthony Hackel.  

  Funeral services for Shelly will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at St. John Sacred Heart Catholic Church, N369 Military Road, Sherwood, with Fr. Michael Betley officiating.  Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday (TONIGHT) from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., and also at church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.  In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established.  For online condolences please visit:  www.verkuilenfh.com
