William R. “Bill” Fischer, 79, died December 23, 2024. Bill was born on June 24, 1945 to Rudolph and Constance (Steiner) Fischer. He married Ann Helf on April 19, 1969.
Bill graduated from Xavier High School where he played on the 1963 WISAA state championship winning basketball team.
In August 1963, Bill was the bottom half of the Appleton Sewage Plant Monster that haunted the city for a week, brought out armed monster hunters and attracted nationwide media attention.
Bill spent 47 years working at Pierce Manufacturing, moving from the shop floor to a manufacturing engineering role. He took great pride in his work there.
Bill is survived by his wife, Ann; Sons: Brad (Doreen) and Jeff (Heidi); Grandchildren: Aubrey, Reagan (Corey) Hagen, Abi, Kiki, Nick and Tyler. He is also survived by in-laws: Kaye Riedel, Joe (Kathy) Helf, Betsy (Chuck) Larsen, Nick (Jo) Helf and Lynn Fischer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, John Fischer.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 2 at 11:00 AM at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 411 Vandenbroek Street, Little Chute, with Fr. Ron Belitz officiating. The visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of the mass. For online condolences please visit www.verkuilenfh.com
