Wendy J. Glovka

Wendy J. Glovka, 57, passed away unexpectedly at her family cottage up north on Sunday, June 20, 2021.  Wendy was born in Cumberland, Wisconsin on September 7, 1963 to George H. Glovka and Gail (Nelson) Glovka.  Wendy spent most of her childhood years in Sparta, Wisconsin.  Wendy moved to Freedom, Wisconsin in 1979 and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in History.  Wendy then spent over 25 years working in the insurance industry in Green Bay and the Fox Valley.

Wendy was an avid Wisconsin sports fan who faithfully and religiously followed the Milwaukee Bucks, the Milwaukee Brewers, the Wisconsin Badgers, the Green Bay Packers, and her hometown Freedom Irish.  Wendy was a fierce competitor as she was constantly playing against friends and family in her favorite game, cribbage. She also participated in a Bunco league. Wendy enjoyed traveling. Her most memorable trips were to Jamaica and to South Padre Island with her lifelong high school friends. As well as her trip to New York City with her mom, sisters and niece.  Her favorite place to spend time at was her family cottage in Eagle River.

Wendy will be dearly missed by Marley, her best friend and animal companion of 12 years.  Wendy raised Marley since he was a puppy and treated him as if he was her kid.  Anyone that knew Wendy knew how much she loved Marley and how much Marley loved Wendy as the two of them were rarely separated.

Wendy also adored her niece and four nephews.  They could not have asked for a better aunt and second mother.  Wendy showered them with love and attention, and was a mainstay at all of their major sporting events, band concerts, graduations, birthdays, weddings and any other major life events.  Because of her commitment and dedication to her niece and nephews and her constant presence at their events, Wendy was also affectionately known by many in the Freedom community as “Aunt Wendy” or “Aunt Woogs.”

More than anything, people who knew Wendy knew that she had a big heart and that she would do anything for her family and friends, who she cherished unconditionally.

Wendy is survived by her mother, Gail Glovka, and by her two sisters and her two brothers-in-law, Tracy and Craig Schlavensky and Connie and Kevin Evers.  Wendy is also survived by her niece and nephews, including Nate Schlavensky, Nick Schlavensky, Neal and Tori Schlavensky, Cole Evers, and Cameron Evers.  Wendy is further survived by her aunt and uncle, Judy and John Hayman, and her aunt Judy Forslin.  Lastly, Wendy is survived by her beloved dog, Marley.

Wendy is preceded in death by her father, George Glovka; her step-father, Dennis Miller; and her uncle, Darrel Forslin.

A funeral service and visitation for Wendy will be held at Verkuilen-Van Duerzen Family Funeral Home (N3972 Columbia Ave.,Freedom, WI 54130).  Visitation hours will be held on Thursday, June 24th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm and Friday, June 25th from 9:00am to 11:00am.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, June 25th.  A burial will take place at Community Lutheran Cemetery at St. Peter’s Church (N2740 N. French Road, Appleton, WI 54913).

Wendy - We love you.  We will miss you. Life will not be the same without you.  You were the glue that held us together and our rock. Your compassion and your kindness will forever be engraved in our hearts. We will continue to smile and be kind in your honor.
