Virgil "Willy" Wollenberg

Virgil “Willy” Wollenberg, 90, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.  Willy was born on June 12, 1934 to John and Helen (Winetski) Wollenberg.  He was a veteran having served in the US Navy on the USS Cambria and the USS Point Defiance.  On May 7, 1960 he was united in marriage to Joan Schumacher at St. Paul’s Catholic Church.  Willy worked for Kimberly Clark and later worked and retired from Pierce Manufacturing. He donated over 20 gallons of blood and went on an Old Glory Honor Flight in 2016.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing.  The cottage at Lake Noquebay was his happy place and the time spent with his children and grandchildren will always be treasured.  He was a member of Legion Post #60 for over 50 years.  Willy was a member of St. Paul’s and was very active at church. 

Willy is survived by his wife of 64 years Joan, 2 children; Kurt (Carmen) Wollenberg and Sara (Jim) Zehner, grandchildren; Luke (Liz) Wollenberg, Brittany (fiancé Robbie) Zehner, Chelsea (Nate) Wellens, and Abby (Dakota) Van Boxtel, great grandchildren; Jameson Wollenberg, Crew Wellens, and Colton Van Boxtel, sister-in-law Joan Schumacher, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Willy was preceded in death by his parents and sisters; Elaine (Lyle) Homman and Marilyn (Phil) Williams. 

A memorial service for Willy will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 410 Wallace St., Combined Locks.  A time of visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.  For online condolences please visit www.verkuilenfh.com.  In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in his name.  The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to Meadow Brook and Compassus Hospice for all their help.
