Sue Verbeten Obituary

Suzanne “Sue” Verbeten, age 62, passed away unexpectedly on September 20, 2024 surrounded by her family at Theda Care Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Sue was born in Kaukauna on November 12, 1961, daughter of Dan and the late Margie (Ryan) Verbeten. She graduated from Holy Cross in 1976, Kaukauna High School in 1980 and soon thereafter became a loving mother of three children. Sue was an active volunteer in her community to include the local Lioness chapter and Holy Cross Men’s Tournaments. Sue was an advocate for diabetic research and awareness, as many know she lived with diabetes from a young age. She loved her work with children at Adventures Childcare, children ministry at Christ the Rock, and spending time at Shawano Lake fishing off the dock or on the ice in her pursuit of catching “Walter”. Sue will be remembered for her enjoyment in watching the Brewers, Packers, Bucks and Badgers; her precious time fishing at Shawano Lake with her father, Dan; her love of music; artistic ability; holiday decorating and spending time with grandchildren.

Sue is survived by her father, Dan Verbeten; children: Ann (John) Kasson of Hartford, Colleen (Dan) Sloane of Kaukauna, Kevin (Calicia) Huss of Poquoson, VA; seven grandchildren: Adam, Hunter, Luke, Keegan, Amelia, Breigh and Carley; siblings: Paul (Robin) Verbeten, Mary (Dan) Hoefler, Alice (Don) Schulz. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Sue was preceded in death by her grandparents: Tim (Marie) Ryan; Howard (Mabel) (Josie) Verbeten; Great Aunt, Ceil; mother, Margie Verbeten; sister-in-law, Mary Verbeten.

A celebration of Sue’s life will take place on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at the Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home Freedom Location, N3972 Columbia Ave. A time of visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Kaukauna. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. For online condolences, please visit www.verkuilenfh.com.

The family would like to offer their gratitude to Amy, her nurse and all of the staff from the Gardens, the many doctors, nurses, and staff members from Theda Care Regional Medical Center ICU who took such great care of Sue with kindness and compassion in her final days.
