Sharlene J. Peeters

Sharlene (Babe) Judith Petronella (Verstegen) Peeters, 78, of Freedom went to her heavenly home on August 29, 2025 after a short battle with cancer. Babe was born on May 6, 1947, in Little Chute to Leo and Genrose (Cavil) Verstegen. Babe married her high school sweetheart Kenneth Peeters on April 15, 1970 at St. John Catholic Church in Little Chute.

Babe worked for Appleton Wire Works for 25+ years before going to work at Moasis McDonalds in Little Chute tending to the grill. She retired in the summer of 2025 at the age of 78. Babe spent her younger days as an avid softball player, winning tournaments, and spending her evenings and weekends at the diamonds. Babe also enjoyed bowling, spending hours at the lanes refining her technique and sharing her love for bowling with friends and family. Later in life Babe took up the game of golf, relishing in sun-filled days chasing that little white ball across the greens and succeeding with two hole-in-ones. She and her family have been members at Irish Waters Golf Club since its inception in 1993. Babe also enjoyed trips to the casino with her sisters. Her greatest love was following her children and grandchildren as they progressed in their sports and life adventures.

Babe is survived by her husband, Kenneth Peeters; children: Brian (Annie) Peeters, Brad (Jessica) Peeters; and grandchildren: Oliver and Hannah Peeters. She is further survived by her sisters: Shawn (Kenneth) Olm, Sharyl Evers, and Rochelle (Jim) Stoffel; sister-in-law: Ruth (Cooper) Verstegen-Olsen; along with nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Keith Verstegen and Sharon Verstegen; parents, Leo and Genrose (Cavil) Verstegen; stepfather, Jack Staley; father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Ida Peeters; brothers-in-law, James Evers and Gregory Peeters; and niece, Sheila Evers.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home, N3972 Columbia Ave, Freedom, WI. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 pm until the time of service. We also invite you to join us for a Celebration of Life at 5:30pm on Saturday, September 13, 2025 that will be held at Irish Waters Golf Club, N4265 Murphy Rd, Freedom, WI. It is an opportunity to come together to share memories, reflect on her vibrant spirit, and honor a life well-lived. Casual or golf attire is encouraged.
