Sedona Vande Hey Obituary

Sedona Vande Hey, 71, Sherwood

Sedona was peacefully welcomed by her Heavenly Father on February 3, 2021, while at home and with family by her side. Sedona was born in Hilbert to the late Elmer Sr. and Doris Schmitz on October 11, 1949.  Sedona met her husband Tom L. Vande Hey while attending Hilbert High School and they married July 19, 1969.  They were blessed in life with 51 years together and one daughter, Sarah Ann.  In the early years, they resided in Hilbert before moving to Sherwood in 1985.

Sedona enjoyed taking many trips, including Germany, Ireland, and the beautiful family road tour out west where they put on 5,000 miles in her minivan.  Sedona and Sarah also took many vacations together in recent years, exploring fun places throughout the United States.  Sedona was a diehard Packers, Brewers and Badgers fan and always had fun attending games.  She enjoyed her yoga and exercise mornings with girlfriends and looked forward to her weekly sign-ins with close friend Lois.  She also enjoyed her Red Hats get-togethers.  Everyone knew Sedona was an avid reader, with a book always in her hand.  She especially enjoyed spending time at their second home in Egg Harbor; where she always wanted to be and never wanted to leave the beauty of Door County!  Sedona enjoyed volunteering, including being past president of the St. John-Sacred Heart school board and helping Tom with many Lions Club fundraisers.  Sedona worked her entire life and met many great friends at Hernke Cheese, Sargento Foods, Thiel Cheese, and retiring from Vande Hey Brantmeier Automotive.

Sedona is survived by husband Tom and daughter Sarah, along with siblings: Thomas John (TJ) (friend Donna) Schmitz, Bridget Bornemann, Diana (Butch) Krueger, Donna (Willie) Schad, Elmer Jr. (JR) (Sherry) Schmitz, and Sam (Kelly) Schmitz; in-laws: Barbara (Les) Lamers, Sherry (JR) Schmitz, Susie (Bruce) Nierode, Judy Kranzusch, Connie (Dan) Diener; special friends: Kathy Albers and Lois Fredericks; and many nieces, nephews, family and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Elmer Sr. and Doris Schmitz; father and mother-in-law: Earl and MaryAnn Vande Hey; brothers-in-law: Keith Bornemann and Charles Kranzusch, and niece: Melissa Blitzke.

The family extends a huge thank you for all the assistance they received from doctors and nurses at ThedaCare, Neuroscience Group, and Froedtert while Sedona battled Glioblastoma.  A special thanks for the loving and compassionate care from ThedaCare Hospice, Home Instead, family, and friends (especially Kathy) during Sedona’s final weeks.

A public visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 from 8:30 - 10:45 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert, with a Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m.  For the safety of all, COVID restrictions are in place. For those wishing to view the service online, it will be live streamed at 11:00 a.m. on the Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home Facebook Page. Family and friends are welcome to a celebration of life at Van Abel’s in Hollandtown, starting at 12:00pm.  In lieu of flowers, per Sedona’s wishes, a memorial is established for St. John-Sacred Heart Catholic School, Sherwood. Thank you for being the rock of our family, the most wonderful and loving wife, and the best friend a daughter could ever have.  We love you and will miss you every day; your wings were ready, but our hearts were not.
