Ronald (Hump) Greiner, age 90, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Ron was born in the town of Freedom on May 23, 1934 sharing his birthday with his loving wife, LaVonne Murphy/Greiner. Ron is the son of the late Carl and Francis Greiner. He and LaVonne were married on August 25, 1954 at St. Nicholas Church. They spent 66 wonderful years together.
In his early years, Ron worked alongside his dad at Greiner Cheese Factory, and later began his own milk route. After selling the milk route, he worked at Zwicker Knitting Mills with eventually retiring from Miller Electric. His real pride and joy was driving school bus for 20+ years where he loved his time with the kids. He also served as a volunteer firefighter and president of the Freedom Fire Department.
Ron was a devoted father and grandfather who was always there for his family. He cherished his many friends and acquaintances and was always ready to socialize. He enjoyed many years of attending basketball and football games with a group of very special family and friends.
Ron is survived by his children Cindy (John) VanDenBerg, Joe (Mary) Greiner, Cathy (Jerry) Kempen and Peggy (Joe) Huss; grandchildren Jamie (Jon) Berger, Jackie Chance, Jeri (Jay) Eastman, Dana (Bret) Reader, Eric Greiner, Jordan (Jason Behle), McKenzie (Parker) Rudie, and Hunter (Courteney Van Camp) Kempen, Cassandra (Trevor) Howard, Trevor Huss (Kelsey Stone), Kayla (Ellis) Brooks; 25 great grandchildren (+1 due in July) and 2 great-great grandsons.
He is further survived by brothers Bob/Beaver (Vionne) Greiner, Jim (Sharon) Greiner, a sister-in-law, Dorothy (Dottie) Schroeder and a brother-in-law, Tom (Debbie) Murphy as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lavonne Greiner; his parents, Carl and Francis Greiner; mother and father in-law, Anna and Ignatius Murphy; sister/brother/in laws; Dorothy (Bill) Gonnering, Carl (Rosie) Greiner, Bill (Ila) Greiner and Glenn Schroeder.
The Mass of Resurrection will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, March 3 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, W2037 County Rd. S, Freedom with Fr. Robert officiating.
