Robert Mathison Obituary

Robert J. “Bob” Mathison returned to his heavenly home on Saturday, December 20, 2025  at Cherry Meadows after a strong battle with Alzheimer’s.  Bob was born on February 23,1932, to Carl John and Henrietta (Hattie Graper) Mathison. He married Betty Plamann on March 6, 1954.  They were married for 69 years at the time of Betty’s death in January 2023.

Bob was a veteran of the US Air Force from December 1951 to December 1955 and was a proud member of the Kyushu Gypsy Squadron that served during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed his Old Glory Honor Flight to Washington DC and was excitedly preparing to also take an Honor Flight to Korea before it was cancelled due to Covid. Bob enjoyed restoring classic vehicles, especially Studebakers.  He rebuilt a military jeep and trailer and enjoyed driving it every year in the Flag Day parade.  He always looked forward to family functions with all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in attendance.

Robert is survived by children: Sue (Steve) Voight, Laurie (Mark) Dorn, Kyle, John (Deb), Rachel (Randy) Wolf and Robert “Gus.” He was grandfather and great-grandfather/grandpa-grandpa/Gpa to: Eric (Stephanie) Voight, Cadyn and Gabe; Timothy (Tracy) Voight; Mitch (Amanda) Voight, Jordy, Corbin and Gunnar; Hailey (Chad) Dercks, Audrey, Jack and Charlie; Cole (Amy) Voight, Ellie, Ben and Madie; Jared (Nicole) Dorn, Abby and Nolan; Megan (Ted) Strub, Violet, Nelly and Quinn; Allison (Seth) Hatley, Olivia, Henry and Lucy; Taylor Dorn; Kylie Wolf; Elijah (Lorna) Wolf, Hixon and Riggin. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Carol Mathison and Joyce Plamann as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, his son Jeffrey “Bubba”, a grandson, Nicholas Voight, his parents and his in-laws William and Rose Plamann, his brothers, Carl “Bud” and Marshall, his sister Dorothy (Warren) Wappler.  Sisters-in-law Grace (Wesley) Young and Dorothy (Rev.
