Richard “Rick” Havel, age 78, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026. He was born 13th of 17 children on January 23, 1948 in Appleton, WI, son of the late Pius and Helen (Fumal) Havel.

Rick was a graduate of Appleton West High School Class of 1967. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and completed two tours during the Vietnam War. Rick dedicated many years of his life to his career at Rich’s Bakery before retiring as an employee of Prospera Credit Union. Rick was a simple man who enjoyed spending his free time playing cards, watching his favorite TV shows and never missing an opportunity to cheer on his favorite team, the San Francisco 49ers. He cherished his Sunday breakfasts at Chico’s as well as the many memories made throughout the years spending time with his family.

Rick is survived by his children: Tami (Gene) Paalman and Patrick (Alona) Havel; step-children: Lisa Griesbach and Chad Wisneski and their families; grandchildren: Eldon Paalman, Myriam Paalman; siblings: Jerry (Vi) Havel, Robert (Barb) Havel, Dave (Geri) Havel, Tom (Shirley) Havel, Ken (Kris) Havel, Karen Greil, Jan Foth, and Deb (Dennis) Welker; sister-in-law, Sharon Havel; along with other extended family, close friend, Gary Howe, and his beloved companion, Missy the cat.

In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his wives: Patricia Havel and Beverly Havel; siblings: Jack (Carol) Havel, Jim (Darlene) Havel, Mary Baier, Donna Popp, Jean Besaw, Kathy (Dick) Collar, Judy (Erhard) Vogel, and Steve Havel; and sister-in-law, Diane Hall.

A Funeral Service for Rick will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna.
