Richard J. “Dick” Lamers, age 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on October 10, 2023. He was born on March 6, 1931, son of the late Richard and Emma (Vandenberg) Lamers. Dick married Barbara Ciske on May 28, 1953, and together this year they celebrated 70 years of marriage. Their love for each other over the years has been unmatched.
Dick grew up in the dairy business after his grandfather started Lamers Dairy in 1913. His life was dedicated to the dairy industry and all his children worked by his side. His love for the dairy life has now extended to the fifth generation of the Lamers family.
Dick proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army after high school. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis and the American Legion. Dick enjoyed camping, traveling, hunting and fishing. His passion, however, was music. Dick directed the church choir for over 45 years and in his early years was a member of a local band. It was through the band that he was able to meet the love of his life. Dick’s greatest love was his family. He was blessed to raise his 8 children and to enjoy his 22 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren’s lives. His legacy will live on through them all.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Barbara Lamers; children: Anne (Mark) Huiting, Joseph (Kelly) Lamers, Tom (Pat) Lamers, Mary (Jeff) Prickette, Jean Klein, Mark (Jane) Lamers, Patti (Eric) Scott and Tim (Kourtny) Lamers; his grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Verhagen; sister-in-law, Shirley Ciske; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many great friends.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Emma Lamers; a son, Allan Lamers; son-in-law, Len Klein; sister, Joanne (Don) Geneske; in-laws: Bud Verhagen, Jim Ciske and Ron (Lori) Ciske.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Holy Spirit Parish, 620 E. Kimberly Ave., Kimberly. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Holy Angels Cemetery, Darboy.
