Nicole Lei Heider, born on February 27, 1969, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to Edwin and Jeanne Schaefer, unexpectedly passed away peacefully in her sleep with her husband by her side. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Nicole's life was filled with love, joy, and remarkable achievements.
Nicole spent her early years in Brillion, Wisconsin. She graduated from Brillion High School in 1987. During her high school career, she distinguished herself as an outstanding runner, achieving numerous awards and setting several school records. Her athletic prowess and determination were inspirational to all who knew her.
Following high school, Nicole embarked on her professional journey with a compassionate role as a candy striper (certified nursing assistant), where her caring nature shone brightly and touched many lives. She later transitioned to a robust career in banking and loans where she worked diligently until her retirement in 2014.
One of Nicole's greatest joys was the birth of her son, Richard Gasman, Jr., in 1990. Rick was the center of her world, and her love for him was boundless. Nicole and Rick cherished their time together up north on the water, where she was affectionately known as "Momma Nicole" to his friends. She also spent many years teaching him how to cook like an expert. They shared an unbreakable bond as mother and son.
In 1999, Nicole married the love of her life, Scott Heider. Their marriage of 25 years, 3 months and 2 days, is a testament to their enduring love and unwavering commitment to one another. Nicole and Scott enjoyed attending NASCAR events and she supported him in his vintage racing at Road America. Together, they took great pride in the home and family life they built.
Nicole's retirement in 2014 was further enriched by the birth of her granddaughter, Piper Lily Gasman. Nicole adored Piper and dedicated herself to her, finding immense joy in their time together.
Nicole was known for her boldness, spirited conversations, fierce love, and exceptional event planning skills. She constantly sought to create special memories for her friends and family, treating them with unforgettable experiences.
Nicole initiated the cherished tradition of Wednesday night family dinners, where she served gourmet meals that rivaled those of top chefs. A favorite pastime of Nicole’s was hosting her famous annual Christmas party, which brought great joy to all who attended. In 2020, Nicole meticulously planned her son’s wedding in Cabo San Lucas, with unwavering determination. The beauty and love surrounding that event are still fondly remembered by Nicole’s family and friends.
A passionate traveler, Nicole explored the world with her family and friends, making the most of her time on this earth. Nicole's legacy is one of love, strength, and dedication. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege to know her. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
Nicole is survived by her husband, Scott Heider; her son, Richard Gasman, Jr. and his wife, Amanda, and daughter, Piper, all of Appleton. She is further survived by her parents, Edwin and Jeanne Schaefer (San Antonio, Florida); siblings: Chad (Ilene) Schaefer (Oshkosh, Wisconsin); brothers and sisters-in-law: Mike (Patricia) Heider, Kim (Steve) Maertz, Todd (Wendy) Heider and Tammi (Joel) Schmeltzer; Cheryl Vanden Heuvel; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Nicole was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Randy and Rochelle Heider (Greenville, Wisconsin).
A service to celebrate Nicole’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, June 3, 2024, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, N2740 N. French Road, Appleton. A time of visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Hors d'oeuvres to be served at Salt, N9650 Friendship Dr, Kaukauna, WI 54130 immediately following the service. Nicole will be laid to rest Tuesday at Riverside Cemetery in Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established to benefit some of Nicole’s favorite charities.
