Merlin "Mert" Summers

 Merlin “Mert” Summers, 83, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022 surrounded by family at home.  Mert was born on November 19, 1938 to Aaron and Esther (Dunst) Summers.  On February 10, 1994 he married Bonnie Bayer.  He was a 53 year member of the North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters.  He worked for Pfeiffer Brothers Construction and Lunda Construction as a pile driver during his career. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, golfing with friends and family, attending his grandchildren’s sports activities and watching John Wayne westerns.  After his retirement, he enjoyed being outside on his lawnmower cutting his grass. He was also an elder in the Oneida Nation.  

Mert is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, a sister, Margaret Drawenek, and sister-in-law, Margaret Summers.  He was preceded in death by his daughter Stacy, his brothers, Garfield Summers and Thomas Summers, and his sisters, Blanche Mecikalski, Jean Nehring, and Marie Young.

A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022  from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Verkuilen Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna. For online condolences please visit www.verkuilenfh.com.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be given to a charity of choice in Mert’s name.
