Mel Ver Voort

Mel A. Ver Voort, age 67, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2022. He was born on June 29, 1954, son of the late John and Gladys (Kerrigan) Ver Voort.

Mel was always involved with 4-H and was named the State Outstanding Holstein Boy in high school. He showed Holsteins at the fair for many years and won many trophies. Mel was a cattle fitter that was well known because of the meticulous job he did. He was asked to judge fairs all over the country. Mel graduated from UW Madison with a Dairy Science Degree and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, where he made many life-long friendships.

Mel married Deb (Woods) Ver Voort on 9-9-99. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, playing cards, reading, photography and spending time with his grandkids.

Mel is survived by his wife, Deb Ver Voort; step daughter, Chrissy (special friend, Joel Lyden and his daughter Zoey) Murphy; grandsons: Logan, Lucas, Liam and Lennon; siblings: Karin (Dick) Landwehr, Sheila (Jim) Letter, Allan (Mary) Ver Voort and Jill (Ken) Dorn; mother-in-law, Pat Woods; brothers and sisters-in-law: Amy Bradley, Bill (Deb) Woods, Tom (Paula) Woods, Dan Woods, Bob (Mary) Woods and Mary (Greg “Yogi”) Greiner; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gladys Ver Voort; father-in-law, Jim Woods; nephews: Todd and Troy Landwehr and Jon Letter.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Saint Nicholas Catholic Church, N4086 Cty Rd E, Freedom, with Fr. Walter Stumpf officiating.
