Max Pribbenow Obituary

March 7, 2016 – January 2, 2024

Max Gerard Pribbenow ran into his Father’s arms, dying peacefully on January 2, 2024 with his devoted parents at his side.

Over the past six and a half years, Max endured the effects of Alper’s Syndrome, a genetic autosomal recessive disorder. Though his condition provided new challenges as time progressed, Max faced each day with humility and obedience, teaching all who were blessed to know him how to be brave. Max loved and was loved deeply.

Max’s favorite place to be was at home with his family. He was the calm within the storm of a houseful of active boys. He liked to listen to music with his brothers and read books with mom and dad. The sound of their voices often lit up Max’s face. He showed his joy with smiles, eyebrow raises, and an occasional belly laugh. He laughed with glee when he met his younger brothers for the first time and smiled with delight during many songs at church.

Max was a gift, pure and simple. Nobody had a more courageous spirit than him. Max fought heroically these last six years, and when it was time to surrender, he peacefully took Jesus by the hand and went home to eternity. We will never know all that he endured. What we do know and were blessed to be witnesses of is the grace and fortitude with which he lived his life. Our loss is immeasurable, but we rejoice in the assurance we have that Max is whole and new in Heaven.

Max will be dearly missed by his greatest champions, his dad and mom, Luke and Bailey (Geraets) Pribbenow, twin brother Leo, and younger brothers Oscar and Clement; grandparents, Mark and Mary (Valentyn) Pribbenow, and Roger and Tracy (Kirwin) Geraets; aunts and uncles: Leah, Nick, Fr. Ben, Casey, Kayla, Sam, Ali, Tate, Sophie, Jack, Hannah, Charlie, and Quinn; cousins: Miriam, Lyla, Ellen, Francis, Arthur, Stevie, Winnie, and Olivia; great grandfather Jerome Pribbenow; and numerous great aunts, uncles, second cousins and extended family members.

Max was preceded in death by his paternal great grandparents, Robert and Althea Valentyn and Elsie Pribbenow, and maternal great grandparents, Charles and Maryette Geraets and Darrell and Marilyn Kirwin.

The funeral liturgy for Max will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Holy Spirit Parish, 600 E. Kimberly Avenue, Kimberly, with Max’s uncle and godfather, Fr. Ben Pribbenow, officiating. Friends may call at the church on Monday, January 8, 2024 after 4:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the liturgy.
