Mark Tatro Obituary

Mark Peter Tatro born July 4, 1950, passed away October 2, 2021 after courageously fighting a long battle with cancer.

He graduated from Kaukauna High in 1968 where he was on the Basketball and Track teams.  It was there that he developed many of his life-long friendships; especially with the VanZeeland family who thought of him as one of their own.

Mark worked as a machinist at Giddings and Lewis until their closing. It was then that Mark found his true passion in the restaurant business. Mark tended bar at the Out-of-Town Club and the Lox Club and then joined the Salm family at the Darboy Club. He worked there for 15 years before becoming a co-owner. Mark was extremely proud of the legacy he helped build and the life long memories made for many in the community at the Darboy Club. He helped so many people over the years celebrate the most important moments of their lives, not to mention serving the best fish and chicken in the valley.

Mark loved the outdoors. Mark and Susi, his partner of 36 years, built a beautiful home on the west shore of Lake Poygan. He especially loved floating on the pontoon, with a line in the water, while listening to a Brewers game.  As he got older, golf became his passion. His weekly game with his buddies is what he looked most forward to. He loved watching his grandkids play numerous sports and Susi’s home cooking.

Mark will be especially missed by his blended family. His partner, Susan Vandehey, and their children: Tara Ellenbecker, Shaena (Jamie) Van Handel, Chris (Brett) Terry, Sara (Jason) Kelderman; grandchildren: Claire Ellenbecker, Avery Ellenbecker, Taylor Van Handel, Abigail Van Handel, Hannah Van Handel, Isabelle Van Handel, Robert Dix, Alexa Terry, Carley Terry, Maverik Kelderman, Gannon Keough, Paxton Kelderman, Nora Keough; his siblings: Nancy (Wayne) Steinbach, Pat (Dennis) Dercks, Michael (Bernedette) Tatro and many nieces and nephews.  Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Henry “Bud” and Patricia Tatro; brother, Stephen “Beaver” Tatro; grandparents: Peter and Elizabeth Tatro, William and Margaret Hietpas.
