Marian Dorothy Van Groll (Zornow)

Marian was born on November 17, 1923 and died at the age of 101 on July 7, 2025. She was born in Little Chute and graduated from St. John’s High School. Shortly thereafter she married the late Robert Van Groll and had five children. The most important role in her life was being a mom and raising her family. She was involved in her children’s lives, volunteering as a girl scout and cub scout leader and welcoming all of their friends into her home. Marian’s kitchen table was often filled with kids looking for advice or help with a problem. Her kids always knew they could count on her. She was a true advocate for not only her children but all children. She was active at St. Therese Church and was proud to be the head of the Christian Mothers group. Marian was a good cook and the Fathers enjoyed when she volunteered as a fill-in cook at the priest house. She worked for Schmidt Oil (U.S. Venture) for 45 years and was proud to be the longest serving employee at the time of her retirement.

Marian had an active and vibrant social life. She was a lifelong golfer and played the sport into her eighties. She enjoyed cards, bowling, bingo and trips to the casino. The highlight of many years was her annual trip to Las Vegas with various members of her family including children and grandchildren.

Marian is survived by son Peter and daughter-in-law Donna Van Groll (Lakewood and Sebring, FL), daughters Linda Van Groll Kruse (Minneapolis, MN) and Amy Heegeman (Appleton), and son-in-law Dan Kennedy (San Tan Valley, AZ). She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Susan Liebergen and Kathy Kennedy, and son-in-law Don Liebergen. She was also preceded in death by her parents Walter and Dory Zornow and all her siblings and their spouses, Phyllis “Molly” Nelson, Carol and Ray Schmidt, June and Mike Verhagen, Bill and Margaret Zornow, and Jack and Margaret Zornow.

A memorial service for Marian will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. at Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home, 101 Canal St., Little Chute. Visitation will begin at the funeral home at 2:00 p.m. and will continue until the time of the service. Interment of her ashes will be with her parents in St. John Cemetery in Little Chute.
