Margie F. Verbeten, age 85, passed away surrounded by the love of her family on July 28, 2024. She was born on July 9, 1939, daughter of the late Tim and Marie (Kurtz) Ryan. Margie graduated from Holy Cross Grade School in 1954, the first class to graduate from the new school. She then graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1958, where she served as class president all four years.
Margie married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Dan Verbeten on November 15, 1960, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. She worked at the Combined Locks Paper Mill for two years and was then the administrative assistant at Holy Cross School from 1982 until 1998.
Anyone who knew Margie understood her love for her Irish heritage. She was very proud to wear her green attire and March 17th was certainly her favorite day of the year. St. Patrick’s Day will not be the same with out her.
Margie and Dan were presidents for many years for the Holy Cross Home and School Association. She was also in charge of typing the rosters and schedule for 54 years for the Holy Cross Men’s Open Basketball Tournament. She enjoyed fishing at their cottage on Shawano Lake, casino trips, and watching the Packers, Brewers, Bucks, Badgers and the NCAA Basketball Tournament.
Margie even served as a lifeguard from 1958-1959. She loved being in the water. In 1979, Dan built her an inground swimming pool at their home in Kaukauna. She loved having her friends and family over for swimming parties. Countless amazing memories were made at the swimming pool.
To know Margie was to love her. Her sweet and generous soul will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
