Louella “Lou” Van Den Berg (1934-2025)
Louella “Lou” (Page) Van Den Berg, 90 passed away peacefully several days after suffering a stroke. Living at Country Villa in Freedom due to dementia, she was still very active and was one of their favorite residents. Our family was blessed to have had her in our lives this long and that she still knew us.
Born June 9th, 1934 to Orville and Eyla Page, she was the oldest of her natural siblings, who have all preceded her in death. Barbara, Donna, Shirley, Sharon, Myron, Sylvia, and Allen. One half-sister, Julene, is still alive.
She married Melvin Van Den Berg on May 10th 1951, they were married almost 74 years. They had 10 children, five of whom have preceded her in death, those include Dick (Melvin Richard), Nadine, Daniel, Joseph and Todd. Also preceding her in death is one grandson, Chad Allen Van Den Berg II.
Survivors are her husband Mel and children including Nannette (John) Greenwood, Noreen Van Den Berg, Chad Van Den Berg, Toby Van Den Berg and Nada Van Den Berg as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lou worked as a waitress at Oneida Golf for over 45 years, loved her job and the members she waited on. She enjoyed gardening, making pickles and canning vegetables, always had homemade jam on hand. She loved to play cards, cribbage, dice games and build jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed bowling, league bowled until she was 87 with her daughter Noreen. Everyone loved Lou! She made time to spend with her sisters to get together and play cards. They loved each other’s company and enjoyed many laughs together.
Lou will be greatly missed but many wonderful memories will remain in our hearts forever.
Visitation will be at Immaculate Conception Church in Oneida, N5589 County Road E, De Pere, on Friday April 11th from 9:30 to 11:00 with a funeral mass to follow.
A special thank you to the staff who took care of her at Country Villa for many months, the staff who took care of her in her final days at Bellin, and the Unity Hospice staff.
