Lloyd L. Springstroh, age 74, of Freedom, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, at Brewster Village.

I was the seventh child born to the late Lawrence and Melda (Witt) Springstroh on August 1, 1951. I became a child of God through Holy Baptism on August 26, 1951 and remained a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. I attended St. Peter Grade School through eighth grade and graduated from Freedom High School in 1969.

On June 22, 1973, I married the love of my life, Kaye Vandenberg. Together we were blessed with four wonderful children: Dawn, Dean, Christopher, and Jay.

Kaye and I raised our children on our family farm on French Road. Farming was more than a livelihood—it was a way of life that brought me great joy. Some of my happiest memories were made working alongside my family and sharing everyday moments with my children.  I especially treasured having my own little “pup” by my side, following me around the farm and “helping” with the chores.  Our hearts were forever changed when God called our son, Christopher, home on June 28, 1991, at the age of 11.

When the time came to leave the farm, I began a second career as a truck driver for Tom Van Handel Corporation.  Even after leaving the farm, I never lost my love for working the land. Gardening became one of my favorite pastimes, and I took great pride in tending my garden each year. Whether planting, weeding, or watering, I was often found outside with my hands in the soil. 

I was a sports fan throughout my life. In my younger years, I enjoyed playing 16-inch softball.  I was especially proud of receiving the Shorty Gerritts Award and bowling an almost perfect 299 game. I also loved deer hunting, fishing at “the shack” or Shawano Lake, and spending time outdoors.  Nothing made me happier than being a proud grandpa of 5!  I loved watching my children and grandchildren at their sporting events or settling in to watch a good Brewers or Packers game.  Friday night fish fries, family gatherings, and time spent with friends were some of my life's greatest blessings.

I am survived by my loving wife, Kaye, of 52 years; Dawn (Oleg) Katsnelson and their son, Alex; Dean (Stacie) Springstroh and their daughter, Lacey, and her special friend, Billy; and Jay (Amanda) Springstroh and their children, Mason, Alaina, and Brody.

I am survived by my brother and fishing buddy, Ronnie Springstroh; my in-laws, Rich Liewergen, Lois Springstroh, Elaine Springstroh, Bonnie Golden, Colleen Weyers, Vern and Mary Vandenberg, John and Jane VanAsten, and Lois Weyers; my godchildren, Rick Springstroh, Dan Liewergen, and Ryan Springstroh; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.

I was preceded in death by my beloved son, Christopher Springstroh; my parents, Lawrence and Melda Springstroh; my brothers, Richard, Roger, James “Harv,” Larry Springstroh; my sister, Janet Liewergen; my sisters-in-law, Nancy and Marge Springstroh; my nephew, Jeff Springstroh; my in-laws, Clem and Margaret Vandenberg, Jerry Golden, Ron Weyers, Terry Weyers, and niece Cathy Golden.

If you are unable to attend, please know that I am grateful for every person whose path crossed mine during my time on earth. Thank you for the friendships, memories, and kindness you shared along the way.

My family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Brewster Village and Bristol Hospice. A special thank you to the many friends I made there and to the dedicated nurses and CNAs whose compassionate care and friendship meant so much during this past year. Your kindness will never be forgotten, and you will always be forever friends of Kaye's. 

If you would like to come and say goodbye, visitation will be held at the Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home, N3972 Columbia Ave, Freedom, on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, N2740 French Road, Freedom, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of my life will be held after the service at Colonial House Supper Club.
