Katie Coenen

Hollandtown - Katie Coenen, age 69, passed away at her home on Thursday, April 15, 2021. She was surrounded by those she loved. Katie was born on October 15, 1951 daughter of the late Donald and Bernice (Hopfensperger) Van Abel. On June 23, 1973 Katie married Earl Coenen. Katie started her career as a dental assistant, later became a full time mom, and after that was a cook and part owner of the family restaurant Van Abel’s of Hollandtown. Katie enjoyed being with family and friends going camping, bowling, golfing, gathering for a meal or just a talk about what was happening in your life.

Katie is survived by a sister, Joan Van Abel; two sons and a daughter: Christopher and Sara Coenen, Ann and Peter Golden, and Lee Coenen; the bright lights of her life, a granddaughter Catelyn Golden and a grandson Marcus Golden. She is also survived by her husband's mother Cornelia Coenen; husband’s family: Delores (Carl) Frelich, Ken (Cori) Coenen, Nick (Gayle) Brittnacher, Carl (Joan) Coenen, Irene (Bruce) George, Bob (friend, Lori) Fox, Mark (Vickie) Coenen, and Paul (Brenda) Coenen; her cousins (that were more like siblings) and partners: Tim (Nancy) Van Abel, Jane (Gary) Marx, Mike (Diane) Van Abel, John “Gus” (Joanne) Van Abel, and Patrick (Kristie) Van Abel; along with many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her father-in-law, Urban Coenen; a sister and brother-in-law Pat and Charlie Lindberg; sister, Sue Van Abel; infant brother-in-law, Merle; sisters-in-law: Marlene Brittnacher and Diane Fox; a cousin, Jerry Van Abel; and her aunt and uncle: Will and Anne “Duff” Van Abel.

The family would like to thank Katie’s doctors, friends and special caregivers for their loving care and friendship. The family also would like to thank the team at Van Abel's of Hollandtown for their care and support also.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, 2021, at St. Francis Catholic Church, 433 County Road CE, Kaukauna, with Fr. Willie Vande Loo officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the Mass. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
