Judith "Judy" Herrle Obituary

Judith “Judy” Ann Herrle, age 83, of Kaukauna, passed away February 19, 2024. Judy was born in Oshkosh on June 16, 1940 to Edward and Lydia (Raddatz) Herrle. She grew up there, attended UWO and graduated with high honors.

Her love of books and talent for writing brought her to Kaukauna High School where she taught English for 34 years.

Her strong interest in geology made travel in the USA and Canada especially appealing to her. She enjoyed scenery and experiences in nature, as long as no worms were involved.

Her artistic talents led her to draw cute and funny cartoons, cards and posters. She and a group of friends had many years of season tickets to area theaters where she especially enjoyed musicals. She appreciated the talents of others and was fond of her purchases from artists in Door & Waupaca Co. and at Art in the Park.

Judy is survived by her brother John Herrle, nephew John Herrle Jr. and niece Sara Morgan. The third generation includes Jordan and Peyton Lee. She is survived by her cousin, Mary Ann Kolb, and her “sisterhood” (Fran, Patti and Sue).

Those who preceded her in death include her parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a series of beloved furry feline friends.

Judy had survived two bouts of breast cancer and ended a smoking habit, but ovarian cancer with complications finally took its toll, after a well-fought 14 month battle that she handled with incredible grace while maintaining her sense of humor.

Thanks to the care from Little Chute Health Services, her hospice team and her nurse friend Nancy Holschuh, Judy’s death was peaceful. She will be remembered and missed by all who knew her.

An informal celebration of life for Judy will be held Thursday, February 29, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Drive, Kaukauna. Judy will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Oshkosh. For online condolences, please visit www.verkuilenfh.com.

Any donations received will go to the American Cancer Society. Flowers are nice, but curing cancer is much better. As Judy would have said, “I’m just saying!”
