John "Jack" Geiger, age 94, of Pelican Lake passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, July 19th, 2023. He was born on June 22, 1929 son of the late Peter and Mary Agnus (Hoffman) Geiger. He was united in marriage to his one true love and soulmate Leona Rutten on April 24, 1954 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute.
He grew up on the family farm near Brillion, WI. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served our country for 21 years. He initially served as a member of the Underwater Demolition Team, a predecessor to the Navy Seals. He then transferred onto a troop transport ship during the Korean Conflict. It was after that, that he started his "silent service" aboard the diesel submarine, USS Clamagore, on which he proudly served for 8 years. As a member of the silent service, he earned his Dolphins, sailed around the world multiple times as a member of the Atlantic and Pacific fleets, achieving the rank of Petty Officer First Class. He finished his naval career as a recruiter during the Vietnam War. After retiring from his second career at Appleton Papers, Jack and Leona wintered in Arizona and enjoyed traveling extensively. The summer months were spent with their family at their lake home in Pelican Lake, WI.
Jack is survived by his children: David Geiger, Don (Carol) Geiger, Dan "Ernie" (Cindy) Geiger, Beth (Jeff) Mayer and Dennis (Jill) Geiger; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; siblings: Vernon (Pam) Geiger, Rapheal (Maxine) Geiger, and Mary Lois Huybers; and many other family member and friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his loving wife Leona; his parents; his in-laws: Walter and Ardina Rutten; a daughter-in-law, Laura Geiger; brothers: Richard, Floyd, Peter, and Simon; sisters: Geraldine and Emily.
Funeral services for Jack will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25th, 2023 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 411 Vandenbroek Street, Little Chute, with Fr. Ron Belitz officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tunnels to Towers via the link https://t2t.org/
