John A. Sprister

   John Sprister passed away on August 16 after a 5 year battle with Parkinson’s and Louie Body Dementia at his home in Sobieski, WI.  Born on August 22, 1946, John was the only child of Harold and Clo Sprister.  He graduated from St. John High School in 1964 and Milton College in 1970. He married Sara Sprister (Siebers) on February 1, 1969. He was drafted into the Army in 1967. Following basic training he was deployed to Vietnam. As a commander of a mortar track, he was awarded a Purple Heart as the only survivor of a land mine explosion.

   He worked for Libby, MeNeal & Libby for 13 years until he and Sara bought an American Plan resort in Boulder Jct., WI. Six years later he began constructing houses until he retired.

   John enjoyed helping family, zoos, hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He is survived by his wife Sara, their children Matt Sprister and his wife Dawn (Mason) of Suamico, WI; Erika Lizee and her husband Theodore Lizee of West Hills, CA; grandchildren; Joseph and Lauren Sprister and Vaughn and Evelyn Lizee; his sisters in-law Jean Siebers, Gloria Siebers, Mary Ludtke, Jan Gonnering and her husband Jerry. He was preceded in death by a son Geoffrey, sisters and brothers in-law, Robert Siebers, Clifford Siebers, Joan and Ken Hermsen, Helen and Richard Langedyke, Norbert and Joan Siebers, and Ron Ludtke.

   We extend heartfelt thanks to all the nurses and doctors who served John, for Unity Hospice.

   The funeral service for John will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Nepomucene, 411 Vandenbroek St., Little Chute, followed by military honors.  A time of visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.  Military honors will be provided

   In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
