Joe Pues

We are sad to announce that on June 8, 2021, at the age of 60, Joe Pues (Freedom, Wisconsin), passed away after a hard-fought battle with brain cancer.  Joe was born in New London, Wisconsin to Midge (Schinke) Pues and James Pues.  Joe was a 1978 graduate of Bonduel High School.  Shortly after graduation, he entered the US Air Force.  While stationed at KI Sawyer Air Force Base, he met his wife, the love of his life, Shirley (Nichols) Pues and her son Matthew Kirkpatrick, who were also stationed there.  Their forty-year adventure started from there.  Eventually, life brought Joe, Shirley and the boys back to the Fox Valley.  They raised all three sons in Freedom, where he resided until his death.

Joe was a proud husband, dad, grandpa. He was a favorite among the children in his life and had a knack for entertaining them by being silly and fun. He was a supporter of the 4-H livestock auction in Outagamie County and member of the Grizzley Gun Club.  He enjoyed the annual reunion among friends who he and Shirley served with at Zweibrucken Air Force Base.  He was also a proud co-owner of EGI Mechanical in Seymour where he worked for 25 years.        

Joe is survived by: his wife, Shirley; children, Matthew (Heather) Kirkpatrick, Michael (Leah) Pues, Bill (Sarah) Pues; grandchild, Remi; his mother, Midge Pues; his father and stepmother, James and Bonnie Pues, and many brothers and sisters, and a large extended family. 

The funeral service for Joe will be held on Monday, June 14, 2021 at 1:30PM at the VERKUILEN VAN DEURZEN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME FREEDOM, N3972 Columbia Ave, Freedom.  A time of visitation will be held on Monday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.  Interment will be in the Community Lutheran Cemetery with military honors.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.verkuilenfh.com.
