Joan D. (Hartzheim) Hunter, 98, Appleton, passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2021. She was born on May 11, 1923 in Kaukauna, WI and was the daughter of the late Philip and Mary (Stumpf) Hartzheim.
She served in the Navy during WWII as a Hospital Field Nurse in California. After returning home, Joan worked at the Thilmany Paper Company before retiring from Kaukauna Electric & Water Company. Joan enjoyed volunteering at St. Vincent DePaul and the 1000 Islands Environmental Center in Kaukauna. Joan spent many happy years at the Appleton Retirement Community.
She is survived by her son Michael (Christine) Hunter of Oak Creek, WI; two grandchildren: Brian (Janine) Hunter, West Allis, WI and Kevin (Stacey) Hunter, St. Francis, WI; three great-grandchildren: Arisa, Joshua, Breana and two great-great-grandchildren: Riley and Peyton along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Philip, her mother, Mary as well as her sisters: Mary (Hartzheim) Burke, Rita (Hartzheim) Radloff and her brothers Clarence and Floyd Hartzheim.
Memorial visitation for Joan will be held Thursday, July 8, 2021 from 12 noon to 1 PM in the chapel of HIGHLAND MEMORIAL PARK (3131 N Richmond Street, Appleton, WI 54911). A funeral service will follow at 1 PM. Interment with full military honors will be in the Garden of Valor.
