Jean A. Fox

February 28, 1939 ~ March 19, 2022 (age 83)

Obituary

Jean Ann Fox was born on February 28, 1939 to Peter and Helen (Van Dyck) Vande Wettering in Freedom, Wisconsin. She graduated from Freedom High School in 1957.  On May 26, 1959 she married Donald Fox and together they ran the Fox family farm. Even though farm life kept Jean busy, Jean shared her talents with her family and friends.

Three years after marriage, Jean helped raise two of her nieces besides caring for her own young children. Through the years she became known as a second mom to many. Jean’s children would often be told “your mom is my second mom”.

Jean's kitchen was busy. She baked home-made bread and shared her bread-making tradition with her grandchildren. Many afternoons she spent canning and teaching lessons. Dinner and supper were always accompanied by one of her many legendary desserts. Playing cards was a family tradition at the kitchen table. Jean inherited the winning streak of her mother. If you know sheepshead, Jean and the Queen of Clubs were close.

Jean loved her grandchildren and was a very proud grandmother. Her refrigerator was adorned with many photographs of her grandchildren. She will be forever remembered for her countless visits to their sporting events and recitals, vacations, shopping trips, riding the Gator in the yard, her desserts, and the orange topped candy jar filled with their favorite sweets.

In her free time, Jean enjoyed going up North and visiting the local casinos especially with her good friend Rosie Grode. Jean loved telling vivid stories about her aunts, uncles, cousins, and everyone who visited “my Pa’s barber shop” while she was growing up. She maintained a close relationship with her relatives and they traveled many places together.

Jean was a devout Catholic and lifelong member of Saint Nicholas Catholic Church. Jean served on multiple committees for the Church and school. Jean was very proud of her local community and Dutch heritage so much so that she volunteered at the Little Chute Windmill for several years.

Special thanks to the many friends and family members who visited her during her stay at the Country Villa. She always enjoyed the visits and catching up on the local news.

Jean passed away unexpectedly on March 19, 2022 and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her children: Mike (Cindy) Fox, Ellen Fox, Amy Alaniz, Karen (Steve) Brazee, Carol (Chris) Brewer, and Tom Fox and nine grandchildren: Kaeli and Kiana Fox, Andrea and Jacob Alaniz, Sam, Josh, Grace, and Gabi Brazee, and Harry Brewer; siblings: Bill “Wimp” (Judy) Vande Wettering, Kay LaCount, Pete "Buck" (Marie) Vande Wettering; sisters-in-law: Lois Vande Wettering, Ann Mueller, Linda (Wayne) Hatton, Rita Fox; her Godchildren: Lori Thiel, Cindy Verstegen, Keith LaCount, and Christy Springstroh and many nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband Donald; son, Greg; her siblings and in-laws: Bob (Ella Mae) Vande Wettering, Norbert "Nubs" Vande Wettering, Ken Vande Wettering, Wayne LaCount, Pat (Ken) Lorenz, Barb (Merle) Wagner, and Ron Mueller and beloved nieces and nephews.
