James W. “Butch” Verhasselt, age 85, passed away at his home on October 1, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born on February 3, 1936, son of the late Isidore and Josephine (Meulemans) Verhasselt. Butch married Marilyn Weyenberg on May 29, 1958 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Little Chute. Together they farmed in the Town of Kaukauna until retirement. Even after, Butch enjoyed checking on his sons running the farm and taking rides in his ranger to check crops. He was a hard worker and taught his family about a good work ethic. Butch proudly served his country as a member of the Unites States Army. He was a family man and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Butch is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Marilyn Verhasselt; his children and grandchildren: MaryJo (John) VerKuilen (Greg, Andy and Bill), Karen (Brian) Kust (Adam, Bobby, Emily and Katie), Nancy (Tom) Kozlovsky (Melissa and Sarah), Donna (Bruce) Gonnering (Amber, Jared, Leah and Allie), Ken (Crystal) Verhasselt (Derek, Nicole, Chad and Carly), Mike (Marney) Verhasselt (Matt, Jon and Lauren), Steve (Kelly) Verhasselt (Kylee, Colin, Caitlyn and Connor), Bruce (Vicky) Verhasselt (Markie, Brad and Kelsey), Jill (Nathan) Moore (Joey, Sam, Elise and Henry); 26 great grandchildren; siblings: Dorothy (Ted) Vosters, Earl (Dolly) Verhasselt, Fr. Dave Verhasselt, Tom (Terri) Verhasselt and Pat (Bill) Brockman; in-laws: Joyce Verhasselt, Evelyn Verhasselt, Janice Zwiers, Jerry (Mary Ann) Weyenberg and Karl Wouters; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Isidore and Josephine Verhasselt; father and mother-in-law: Martin and Frances (Verstegen) Weyenberg; twin infant brothers; siblings: Betty (Rich) Van Zeeland, Len (Betty) Verhasselt, Rose (Gerry) Vande Burgt, Joe (JoAnne) Verhasselt, Agnes (Clayton) Vande Burgt and Bob Verhasselt; in-laws: Richard Zwiers and Diane Wouters.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at Saint Nicholas Catholic Church, W2037 County Road S, Freedom, with Father Walter Stumpf officiating.
