James R. Berghuis, age 55, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 1st 2024 at his home in Kaukauna after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 7th, 1969 to Robert and Dolly(Vosters) Berghuis in Kaukauna. On April 2nd, 2016, he married Rebecca Huss, his longtime partner and mother of their son, Zachary Berghuis.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Rebecca and their son Zachary, his parents, his children; August Nettekoven(significant other Corey Munsch), Brianna Huss, Samantha Huss, Tyler(Nattassja) Berghuis; Jim’s 7 grandchildren; his brother John Berghius(significant other Amy); his sisters-in-law Dawn and Shelly Berghuis; his mother in law Mary Huss; his nieces, Kirsten(Josh) Nieland, Kara Berghuis(fiancée Pierce Drinkwine), Makenna Berghuis(significant other Hany), Holly(Bradley) Verhovec; his nephew Michael(Amy) Berghuis; his many aunts, uncles and cousins, etc; and his close friends Crystal and Tyson Covarrubias, along with their son, Cruz.
He was preceded in death by his brother Jeffrey Berghuis, nephew Derek Berghuis, his uncle Dave(Bucky) Berghuis, his aunts Cindy Vosters, and Bev Havel, his cousin Christie Linjer Nachtrab, his close friend George Babino, and his Vosters, Zielke and Berghuis grandparents.
Those who knew Jim know he loved sports, specifically the Las Vegas Raiders and the Milwaukee Brewers, and spending time outdoors with his granddaughter Imani Rose Allen and his little buddy Cruiser. Before his battle with lung cancer, Jim loved playing softball and participating in father-son bowling tournaments with Zach. He eventually inspired his son to follow in his footsteps and become an active member in a number of community softball leagues. Jim loved spending time in his yard, swimming in the pool with his wife, listening to music, hosting bonfires with his friends and family, splitting wood, as well as keeping a close eye on his bird feeders.
In the weeks preceding his death, he thoroughly enjoyed his visits with his aunts, uncles and cousins, and his phone calls and visits with his cousin Tory Vosters.
His family would like to extend a special thanks to his care team at Vince Lombardi Cancer Center and Dr. Gautam, as a well as special thanks to his Heartland Hospice care team, including his favorite nurse Audra.
