Ione E. (DeBruin) Geurts

Ione E. (DeBruin) Geurts, age 92, passed away peacefully Monday, April 20, 2026 at Country Villa in Freedom, WI. She was born on July 31, 1933 to the late Henry and Lena (Verstegen) DeBruin in Little Chute, WI. On June 3, 1952 she was united in marriage to Thomas Geurts. Thomas preceded her in death in 1997.

Mom we will always remember the deep love you had for your family, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Mom always enjoyed being outside in the sunshine biking or rollerblading, and walking with family or neighbors. She loved to bake, play cards, and marble games. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends and most of all she loved shopping in Door County with her daughters each year, starting the day with a Door County Breakfast and off to the stores. Lots of laughter, pictures, and shopping.

Ione is survived by her children: Debbie (Tom) Murphy, Ron (Diane) Geurts, Dave (Lynn) Geurts, and Mary (Mike) Springstroh; grandchildren: Craig (Kim), Kyle (Amanda), Kody, Travis (Meghan), Holly (Bob), Dana (Brendan), Chad (Jessica), Jamie (Haley), Nicole (Clare), Rachel (Bobby), Deon (Christy), Shayna (Nate), and Sean (Ava); great grandchildren: Quinn, Declan, Cormac, S’Layh, S’Meah, S’NayJah, Beatrice, Zelie, Miles, Lily, Haven, Isaac, Stefen, Kaelyn, Elijah, August, and Uriah. She is further survived by her sisters-in-law: Carol DeBruin, Jane Coffey, Joan Geurts and many other relatives and friends.

Ione was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Nancy Kurey; and son-in-law, Bob Kurey; siblings: Rony (Barney), Sonny (Doris), Rita (Bob), Verna (Jerry), Betty (Ed), Ron DeBruin; in-laws: Joyce (Howard), Ves (Ange), Don Coffey, Joan (Harvey), Lefty, and Rita.

A Funeral Mass for Ione will take place on Monday, April 27, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, W2037 County Rd. S, Freedom, WI with Fr. Judah Pigon officiating. Friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. For online condolences, please visit www.verkuilenfh.com.
