Herbert Arthur Lehndorf, age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 6, 2023. He was born on March 31, 1938 to Herbert and D. Anne (Nicholson) Lehndorf.
Herbert was a graduate of Shiocton High School. He proudly served in the US Air Force from 1956 to 1962 where he was based in Guam. On June 24, 1961, he married the love of his life, Jean Newman, in Waukesha, WI. In 1962, Herbert and Jean moved to rural Appleton to farm and raise their family. Herbert loved nature, especially walks in the woods to observe all of God’s critters. He enjoyed family activities, helping the kids with their wood working and 4-H projects, as well as farming with his orange A-C and green John Deere tractors. He also had a love for American history. Herb was a gentle and kind man with a great smile and much love for his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
Herb is survived by his loving wife, Jean; children: Chris (Bernie) Lehndorf, Rebecca (Mike) Lehndorf, and Jeff (Carolynn) Lehndorf; 8 grandchildren: Leah, Adria, David, Miranda, Ellen, Paul, Oliver, and Jarrod; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Patricia Hunt, cousin, Lorna Hainesworth; sisters and brothers-in-law: Chuck (Linda) Newman and LouAnn Newman. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and D. Anne Lehndorf.
A Funeral Mass for Herb will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at St. Edward the Confessor of Mackville, N2926 WI-47, Appleton, WI 54913. Visitation will begin at the church at 9:00 a.m. and will continue until the time of the Mass. Herb will be laid to rest in Turney Hill Cemetery.
