Grace M. Kessler, age 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. Born on March 25, 1935, in Darboy, Grace was the daughter of Oscar and Laura (Feldmeyer) Hartzheim. On October 6, 1956, she married the love of her life, Carl Kessler, and together they built a beautiful life grounded in faith, family, and friendship.
Grace found joy in simple pleasures—playing cards and games, working on puzzles, and spending time with those she loved. After Carl's passing, she moved to The Heritage, where she made many dear friends and enjoyed managing the store on site. Her faith remained a guiding light throughout her life, and she was a devoted member of St. Therese Catholic Church.
Above all, Grace cherished her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought immense joy to her life, and the memories they shared will be forever treasured. Known affectionately as “Amazing Grace,” she lived up to that name every day—kind, faithful, and full of love.
Grace is survived by her children: Susan (Bob) Zahn, Kathryn (Tony) Cardoza, Mike Kessler, Jane (Tim) Shaffer, Lora (Jim) Ring, and Tim Kessler; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Carl, her parents, and her siblings: Richard (Lorie) Hartzheim, Paul (Viola) Hartzheim, Eva (Leonard) Brozoski, Robert Hartzheim, Eileen (Jim) Maloney, David (Dolores) Hartzheim, and Leon (Lillian) Hartzheim.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Grace on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church, 213 E Wisconsin Ave. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
