Gary T. "Melvy" Weyenberg Obituary

Gary T. “Melvy” Weyenberg, age 65 of Little Chute, passed away at his home on February 3, 2026 surrounded by family after a hard-fought battle against cancer. He was born on May 4, 1960, son of the late Melvin “Lefty” and Lucille (Sanderfoot) Weyenberg.

Melvy dedicated 42 years of his life to the Combined Locks Paper Mill. His true passion however, was his cottage up north on Sugar Maple Lake. There was nothing he loved more than being there, surrounded by nature, and the people he cared about most. Some of Melvy’s happiest moments were spent at the cottage sitting in the sun porch watching the sunrise and watching the wildlife with his wife. He loved his title of “Papa Melvy” and got great joy bringing everyone fishing or loading his grandchildren onto the four-wheeler and giving them the most memorable rides. His love for them ran deep, and the memories he made with them will be cherished always.

An outdoorsman at heart, Melvy loved hunting and fishing with family and friends and felt most at peace in nature. Whether working on a project, fixing something, helping others, or enjoying time at the lake, he lived his life to the fullest.

Melvy is survived by his wife, Gail Weyenberg; daughters: Amy Weyenberg and Katie (Ryan) Biesterveld; stepchildren: Becky (Casey) Verbruggen, Jim (Stephanie) Hungerford and Jenny (Dylan) Rollo; grandchildren: Leo and Ava Biesterveld, Lee and Jake Verbruggen, Aubrey, Tyler and Luke Hungerford, Lucy and Brynn Rollo; siblings: Dan (Donna) Weyenberg, Sally (Mike) Dickinson, Mary (Joe) Kempen; brothers and sisters-in-law: Jack Geneske, Rose (Mike) Bogard, Jean (special friend, Glenn) Grant, Patty Weyenberg, Phil (Kelly) Hammen, Lynn (Randy) Wenham and Jim (Sue) Hammen; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Melvy was preceded in death by his parents, Lefty and Lucille Weyenberg; sister, Sue Geneske; father and mother-in-law, Jim and Alice Hammen, and brother-in-law, Larry Grant.

Per Melvy’s wishes, a private family gathering will take place.

The Weyenberg family would like to extend a special thank you to the ThedaCare Hospice team for all of their compassionate care.
