Fred P. “Fritz” Apitz

Fred P. Apitz, age 83, of the Town of Harrison, passed away peacefully with his wife at his side on January 25, 2019. He was born on August 3, 1935, son of the late Paul and Ella Apitz. Fred served in the Army Reserves from 1958-1960 at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. He worked on his parent’s farm until they sold in 1973. Through the years, Fred’s love for farming continued at his home with his large garden. He grew tomatoes, onions, potatoes, peppers, green beans, carrots and red beats. Fred married Joyce (Sprangers) Kauth on February 9, 1974.  

Fred worked at Hernk’s Cheese Company in Hilbert, WI. It then changed to Nestle and then to Fromagerie Bell Cheese Company before it closed on January 31, 1995. He then worked at Chilton Metal Products until his retirement on April 9, 1999.

Fred is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joyce Apitz; brothers and sisters-in-law: Lois apitz, Delores Kilsdonk, LaVerne Beck, Gordon (Yvonne) Sprangers, Dennis (Karen) Gloudemans, Tom (Judy) Danke and Glen (Cheri) Sprangers; Godchildren: Nancy (Beck) Garcia and Paul Apitz; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ella Apitz; father and mother-in-law: Edward and Evelyn Sprangers; brother, Charles Apitz; sister, Grace (Roland) Wittman; brothers and sisters-in-law: Arlene Gloudemans, Robert Kilsdonk and Delbert Beck; and many other relatives.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at the Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home KAUKAUNA Location (Formerly the Boettcher Funeral Home), 2401 Fieldcrest Drive, Kaukauna. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in Fred’s name.
