The Lord in his wisdom took Farrell Lewis home to heaven on Sunday, September 10, 2023 with his wife Gerri and sister-in-law Denise at his side at Froedtert Hospital (Milwaukee). Farrell was born on September 9, 1956 in Peekskill, New York to the late Robert and Beverly (Haight) Lewis. He graduated in 1974 from Hendrick Hudson High School in Montrose, New York.
At an early age, Farrell knew that he wanted to join the U.S. Coast Guard, and he fulfilled that dream, devoting 20 years of his life to serving his country. While most of his service was on the east coast, he did spend 3 years serving on the Coast Guard Icebreaker Mackinaw out of Cheboygan, Michigan. It’s during that period of time that Farrell said “it changed the rest of his life.” While the icebreaker was in for maintenance and repairs in Sturgeon Bay, Farrell had a blind date on his 29th birthday with his future wife, Geraldine (Gerri) Harmann. Farrell loved Gerri dearly and they were married on May 28, 1988, having celebrated 35 years of marriage this year.
Even though they were not blessed with their own children, Farrell found a way to influence the lives of many young people during his life, as Uncle Farrell and as a mentor/friend. After retirement from the service as a Chief Petty Officer, Farrell continued his education and working career with his final adventure being co-partnership of a business.
The most important part of his life, though, was serving his Lord and Savior. In Farrell’s words, he “loved Jesus dearly” and used his passion for drumming and running sound at St. Peter Lutheran Church and The CORE all to God’s glory. Church was a second home for him; the Lord blessed him with true peace there. He also enjoyed his “garage” ministry of helping serve many dear friends and family with their automotive needs. The comradery and conversations with friends brought him a lot of joy.
Farrell is survived by and will be deeply missed by his wife, Gerri, along with his mother-in-law, Dorothy Ash, brother Robert Lewis (Carol Lynch, fiancé), sister Diane Nathan, sister April (Eric) Haight, sister Holly (Steve) Kouvo, sister-in-law Karen (Chris) VanLanen, sister-in-law Denise Harmann, Uncle Alfred (Sonner) Haight, cousin (really more a brother) Gregory Haight, nieces and nephews Erin Nathan, Matthew (Katherine) Nathan, Amber (Damiao) Dossentos, Merisa Kouvo, Jessica Kouvo, Eric (Rachel) Harmann, Craig (Lyndsay) Harmann, Matthew (McKenzie) VanLanen, Alex VanLanen, great nieces and nephews Fern Nathan and Talen Nathan, Robbie, Elizabeth, and Emma Nathan, Jace Dossentos, McCoy and Keaton Harmann, Harvey, Sloane and Sutton Harmann, and Leo and Lincoln VanLanen, along with many other cousins, family and dearly loved friends.
Farrell was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Virgil Ash, and brother-in-law Gary Harmann.
