Evangeline Ann Stoeger, age 96, passed peacefully in her sleep at her home in Darboy, WI on Monday, May 6, 2024. She was born to Arthur H. and Anna M. (Brill) Mayer on September 1, 1927. Raised in Kaukauna, she married Lloyd John Stoeger, son of John and Mary (Becher) on July 8, 1950 and spent many loving years together until Lloyd’s passing in 2009.
She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Darboy, WI, and helped prepare food with the Holy Spirit funeral volunteers for many years. She enjoyed relaxing at her sister’s home on Lake Winnebago when their kids were growing up, weekends at the family cabin in Fence, WI, but she absolutely hated tent camping. She loved traveling to Florida and to several Gulf coast areas after her husband retired and was an avid reader. She also liked playing cards, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and going to the monthly luncheons with friends she met through her church. Evangeline was a loving mother and grandmother and found great joy in keeping up with the active lives of her seven great grandchildren. A large part of her life was dedicated to care giving, raising three children, assisting her sister in caring for their mother in her later years, and taking care of her husband for many years after he suffered a stroke.
Eva is survived by her three children: William (Jacquelyn King), Ann (Robert) O’Kelly, and Paul (Jill); her grandchildren: Carey (Jake) Wallace and their children: Hannah and Josh, Katie (Kevin) Schieman and their children: Alina and Colton, Cody (Natascha) Stoeger and their children: Eva, Isla, and Remi, and Travis (Taryn); and her best friend, Mary Schoettler, who helped mom maintain her independence in her own home for the last 20 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother James; and her sister Geraldine Kobal.
A funeral service for Evangeline will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Drive, Kaukauna. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Eva requested that in lieu of flowers, well wishers contribute to Easter Seals of Wisconsin, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or a charity of their choice.
