Eugene "Gene" Krull

Eugene “Gene” L. Krull, 82, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026.  Gene was born on November 17, 1943 to Alfred and Grace (Holz) Krull.  On April 4, 1964 he was united in marriage to Karen Willenkamp. 

Gene spent his early adult years serving in the Army Reserves. He built a long career as a Union Representative in the food and textiles industry, a role that reflected his steady approach and commitment to working people. Gene also believed in supporting his community and served for a time on the Freedom Area School Board. In later years he became a familiar and welcome presence at Black Creek Elementary Middle School, where he volunteered in classrooms and enjoyed connecting with students and staff.

Gene enjoyed time outdoors and took pride in staying active. He spent many days on the golf course and years on the water fishing, balanced in winter by time spent snowmobiling with friends. For many years he also enjoyed owning and driving a Corvette.

Gene never passed up an opportunity to climb onto a tractor or help operate heavy farm equipment for a friend. At home he found satisfaction in simple routines, mowing the lawn, tending the garden, and working in his shop. His woodworking created lasting pieces for family and friends, including rocking horses, pedestals, and wooden bowls. He also enjoyed time with others who shared an interest in heritage through involvement with the local German Club.

Gene is survived by his wife of 62 years Karen Krull, a son Mark (Jackie) Krull, son-in-law, Tom Heins, grandchildren; Luke Eugene (fiancée Savannah) Krull, Gretchen (Alec) Weitermann and Grace Heins, brother Allen (Connie) Krull, sister Linda (Bill) Allred, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Bob Willenkamp, Larry (Marilyn) Willenkamp, Lois Grode, Joan Krull, Judy Krull and Kathy Krull, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Melissa and her twins, and brothers; Ron Krull, Merlin Krull and Daryl Krull.

The funeral service for Gene will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 3009 N.
