Elizabeth "Betty" Schumann Obituary

Elizabeth “Betty” Schumann, 85, of Kimberly passed away on March 9, 2026 surrounded by her family.

Mom was born on August 18, 1941, in Racine Wisconsin.  She grew up in Bear Creek, Wis on the family farm.  After graduating from high school, she worked at KC Paper Mill in Neenah.  In 1966, she took a waitressing job at Mable’s Restaurant, in Kaukauna.  It was there that she met the love of her life, her better half, Jerry Schumann.  He lovingly referred to her by her nickname, Putz. They married on February 21, 1969 and made Kimberly their home.  Together they joined their children into one big, Brady Bunch blended family…his four, her two and their two.  Debi (Bob) Williamsen, Tom (Kathy) Schumann, Brian (Julie) Schumann, Dan (Sharon) Schumann, Kelly (Scott) Degaro, Chris (Steve) Van Deurzen, Tiger (Jake Corey) Schumann, Peg (special friend Jake Wilinski) Fortune.  Plus a bonus son they kept along the way, Jerry Fortune.

Anyone that knew Betty, knew that she took great pride in her well manicured lawn.  Betty never met a lawn mower she didn’t like!  She loved the outdoors, weeding and landscaping.  She was also a Kimberly grade school Crossing Guard, a Brownie Leader, and volunteered at Colony Oaks Nursing home as a BINGO coordinator.

Christmas was Mom’s favorite holiday!  We all gathered at the house, enjoying so many tables of delicious hors d’oeuvres, that we jokingly referred to them as “the meal before the meal”.  We also learned to love and expect her burnt ham, lol.  Her famous Christmas cut-out cookies were legendary and she would often gather the younger grandchildren for a day of cookie decorating.  Once a year she also hosted the grandkid sleep-over night on her living room floor. And speaking of food, who can forget her delicious half-time meals on Packer game day, which she served at Tiger and Jake’s bar, Tiger’s Tavern, in Kimberly.

Our family grew up camping at Jellystone Campground in Sturgeon Bay.   Our parents later bought a cottage in Fence, Wis which became known in our family as “The Villa”.   So many memories there!  She and Jerry enjoyed family trips to Disney World (eight kids in a station wagon!), South Dakota, Las Vegas and Talledega NASCAR. In 1982 they become the proud business owners of Schumann’s Skyview Club which they owned for over fifteen years.  Many great friendships were formed with their staff, who felt like family.

Betty’s later life was affected by health-related COPD issues.  Through it all, she was tough as nails, and kept her sense of humor. She was kind and very generous.  She had an extra place in her heart for animals, especially “her grand-dogs”.  She hosted summer garage nights, enjoying loads of laughter while drinking her favorite beverage, shorty Bud Lights!

She is survived by her beloved husband Jerry, her sister Janice “GoGo” Monty, a brother-in-law, Jim (Sherri) Schumann, her eight children and twenty-eight grandchildren:  Jessie (Will), Alexandra (Spencer), Sami (Shawn), Charlie, Mandy, Lacey (Kyle) Brooke, Justin (Lydia), Devan, Kyle (Rebecca), Cole, Chloe, Braylee, Jamie (Aimee), BJ (Oksana) Amber (Adam) Jordan (Miranda), Tayler, Tanner (Katrina), Troy, Alyssa (Andy), Chelsey (Caleb), Travis (Chelsea) Brady (Alexis) Clarissa (Tyler), Kearsten, Alexis (Quinn) Alivia (Kyle) and Mason.  Her nieces, a nephew, and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Betty Monty, Charles and Edwina Schumann, a sister and brother-in-law, Pinky and Gordy Buschke, a brother, Rocky Monty, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shirley and Rocky Tackett.

Mom would like to thank her neighbors, Zander and Mitch for their help.  Tom VandenHeuvel, for lawn/snow care.  Marnie and Jim, her hairdressers at Fringe.  Her favorite Lox Club bartender and dear friend, Joe VanderWyst.  She was also blessed with 60 year cherished friendships - Jim and Marty Kilsdonk (her former hairdresser), Bill and Vi Vincent, Jim and Barb Menting (whom she considered a beloved soul sister and the keeper of her secrets).

The family would like to express their gratitude to Compassus Hospice, (particularly Craig and Karissa) and the entire staff at Frontida Assisted Living.

Mom wanted to also leave her loving thanks to her wonderful husband Jerry, for going above and beyond being her caregiver this past year. She will miss you all dearly, but will see you all again.

~We love you more Mom, all the way to Little Chute and back~
