Doris A. Van Vonderen, age 79, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 6, 2026 surrounded by her family and friends. She was born on February 18, 1947, daughter of the late Anton and Emma Boehnlein.
On July 4, 1966, Doris married the love of her life, David Van Vonderen, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sherwood, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in love and commitment. Throughout her working years, Doris held various positions before embracing her most cherished role as a stay-at-home mother. She dedicated herself wholeheartedly to raising her children in a home filled with love and care. Doris found joy in the simple, meaningful moments of everyday life. She had a passion for knitting and crocheting, often creating beautiful handmade items for family and friends. She loved flowers and took great pride in her gardening. Doris also enjoyed baking and cooking, sharing her delicious creations with those she loved. Above all, Doris treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren. They were a constant source of pride and happiness, and she cherished every moment shared with them.
Doris is survived by her loving husband, David Van Vonderen; children: Wanda (Bruce) Schreiber and Michael Van Vonderen; grandchildren: Austin (Brenna) Schreiber, Brett (fiancée Tina Krcmarik) Schreiber, and Maddy Schreiber; recently born great-grandson, Grayson Schreiber; brother-in-law, Kent Olson; and special friends: Janice and Jim Lamers, Dave Weber, and Janet Herman. Doris is further survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her siblings: Bernice (Bill) Parrott, Alice Liethen, Elroy (Doris) Boehnlein, and Eugene (Cookie) Boehnlein; in-laws: Arnold and Hattie Van Vonderen; and her sister-in-law, Mary Olson.
A Funeral Mass for Doris will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 410 Wallace St., Combined Locks. Visitation will begin at the church at 9:00 a.m. and will continue until the time of the Mass. For online condolences, please visit www.verkuilenfh.com.
