Dennis H. Valentyne

Dennis Valentyne, age 81, passed away unexpectedly after a surgery on Monday, September 27, 2021. He was born in Little Chute on August 15, 1940, son of the late Harry and Maryann “Sis” (Weyenberg) Valentyne. He married Jan Liebergen on April 22, 1965 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church. She preceded in him death in 2018.

Dennis served in the Army Reserves with the highest rank of Staff Sergeant from 1961-1967.  He worked at the paper mill in Kimberly and retired in 1999.

Dennis was deeply involved in basketball throughout his entire life. He touched many lives through his mentoring and coaching. Dennis was the head varsity coach for Hilbert and Stockbridge and assisted in Kimberly over the years. He ran the Kimberly Cardinal Youth program and also refereed for many years at all levels. Dennis was the recipient of the Red Smith Award in 2003.

Dennis was a season ticket holder for the Green Bay Packers and was also a big fan of the Brewers, Badgers, Bucks and all local high school sports. He especially looked forward to attending all of his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. Dennis loved to fish and golf, and he always got his money worth by using the entire course. He looked forward to his “Quarterback Club” get togethers and spending time with his family.

Dennis is survived by his children: Todd (fiancé, Wendy Daniels) Valentyne, Appleton; Tami (Dan) Kuether, Menasha; Tara (Dennis) DeBoth, Little Chute; grandchildren: Taylor Valentyne, Brittany, Kaylie and Brandon Kuether, Casey and Campbell DeBoth, Gage (Amy) Leisgang, Brenna and Breaden Hermes; siblings: Dave (Carol) Valentyne and Meri (Lari) DeBruin; in-laws: Nancy (Roger) Schuh, Carrie Johnson and Paul Rettler; great family friend, Frank (Heather) DeVellis; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Dennis was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jan Valentyne; parents, Harry and Sis Valentyne; father and mother-in-law, Alvin and Cecelia Liebergen; in-laws: Sandra Valentyne, Alvin Jr. Liebergen and Pat Rettler.    

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Holy Spirit Parish-Kimberly Site, 620 E. Kimberly Ave. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. For online condolences, please visit www.verkuilenfh.com.
