Dennis W. “Skeeter” Lowney, age 72, of Freedom passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on May 7, 1951 and raised in Bear Creek, son of Rosemary (Young) and the late William Lowney. Skeeter graduated from Freedom High School in 1969. He was the proud owner of Pat and Skeeter’s Tavern in Stephensville. He then joined his son, Joe, to start up Lowney’s Landscaping until his eventual retirement. He was a proud father of three and grandfather of seven. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he didn’t miss much of what they were involved in. When he wasn’t supporting his grandchildren in their hobbies, he could be found at “The Ranch”. He loved to hunt, but more importantly loved to hunt with his boys and grandsons. He enjoyed his golf league with so many wonderful friends. He could always light up a room and was known everywhere he went...truly a legend.
He is survived by his children: Joe (Kelly) Lowney, Appleton; Jamie (Clint) Kriewaldt, Freedom; Billy Lowney (Sp. Friend Bree Ammann), Freedom; grandchildren: Cole and Aiden Lowney; Kierstin, Carter, Collin, Clay, and Kendall Kriewaldt; his mother Rosemary Lowney, Oshkosh; siblings: Ellen (Charles) Hietpas, Little Chute; David, Appleton; Sharon (Mark) Weitz, Oshkosh; Peter (Lynnell), Waunakee; Tony, Oshkosh; Tricia (Matt) Martell, Oshkosh; sister-in-law Sue Lowney, Freedom; his beloved dog, Cecil; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, William; brother, Michael; and his aunt Sr. Mary Ellen Frances Lowney.
Funeral services for Skeeter will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church (W2037 County Rd. S, Freedom). Visitation will be held on Monday, May 6 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Freedom’s Verkuilen - Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home (N3972 N Columbia Ave, Freedom), and again on Tuesday morning at the church from 9:00 until the time of service.
