Dennis Huss Obituary

Dennis Lawrence Huss, age 77, passed away unexpectedly after a short illness on September 29, 2025. Dennis was born to Lawrence P. Huss and Agnes J. (Williamsen) Huss on November 11, 1947, and was raised in Little Chute. He was united in marriage with Susan Cooney, formerly of New London, on October 6, 1973. Together they built their home and raised three children in Kimberly. Dennis and Susan would have been married 53 years this week.

Dennis is survived by his wife Susan and their three children: Jennifer Wimer (Tom Janikowski, significant other) Jessica Huss and Ryan (Lisa) Huss; his grandchildren: Matthew, Emily, and Alayna Huss; and Addyson and Jake Lardin (Scott Lardin, Father); two brothers: Dale (Debbie) Huss, Dean (Linda) Huss; and his sister, Jan (Doug) Becklin. Dennis is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents: Lawrence and Agnes Huss; and one granddaughter, Claire Jean Huss.

Dennis was employed by Appleton Papers, Locks Mill, for 46 years as a machinist. During this time, he developed many skills and built friendships.  After retiring in 2010, he continued to meet his work friends for “breakfast with the boys”, a monthly date which he enjoyed.

Dennis was a wonderful, strong, generous, and kind husband, father, and grandfather. He was a “Jack of all trades” and a gifted wood crafter.  He built many beautiful solid oak tables and cabinets, a quality that can’t be found in stores.  His expertise was often sought after by neighbors, family, and friends.  Many would come to him with questions on projects, and would leave with detailed instructions, along with all the tools needed to complete the job.  More often than not, he would end up lending a helping hand, as that’s the person he was.  In early days, if you noticed a lot of neighborhood garden sheds looked the same, they were made by Dennis.

Dennis was a collector of model trains, and much to the chagrin of the kids, he enjoyed visiting train museums all over the State.  Our summer vacations usually centered around a train ride somewhere, and one time included a holdup by ‘Roy Robber’ which thrilled the kids, as they became the robber’s hostage!  We have many fond memories of our annual trip to Wisconsin Dells, which always included a Friday night dinner at the Pizza Pub.   The kids would often sneak out of bed late, to share a frozen pizza with dad after he returned from his second shift at the mill.  Later in life, he became an avid gardener and created beautiful landscaping around the yard.  He looked forward to spring, when he and mom would go to Honeymoon Acres to purchase plants for his latest project. He also developed an interest in motorcycles, and could often be seen cruising around town “just checking things out”.

Above all, his family meant everything to him.  He was so proud of mom, his children, and grandchildren.  He was their strongest advocate, and many of their best qualities were inherited from him. He was a devoted husband who supported mom in every way.  Dennis would drop everything at a moment’s notice, to come help his children if he was needed. He enjoyed attending and cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events. Dennis was also close to his siblings and enjoyed every opportunity to visit with them.  Dennis loved family parties. Christmas and Thanksgiving in particular. He made the best (and strongest) brandy Old Fashions, and Christmas was just not complete without one of his “world famous” grasshoppers. Needless to say, Dennis will be deeply missed by his family.
