Sadly, a piece of our hearts went with Dennis, our loving husband, father, and grandfather on October 6, 2025. Dennis Dean Dakins, age 77, died unexpectedly surrounded by his family who loved and cherished him.
He was born on March 4, 1948 to Raymond and Mildred Dakins. He married the love of his life, Patricia Smet on October 11, 1973. It would have been 52 loving years together this year.
After high school, he went into the Navy. Later on he joined the Army National Guard and then had a long career as a machinist.
Throughout the years Denny cherished any time he could spend with family whether it was at home, family gatherings at the park, or adventures with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching the Packer and Badger games, reading fantasy books, and playing games with his grandchildren. His children remember playing catch and basketball in the evenings together, warm hugs, and camping and family trips he made special. He enjoyed being outdoors taking care of his yard.
Denny will be remembered by all who knew him for his generous, kind heart. He would drop anything to help his family and friends. If you needed him, he was there, and he expected nothing in return.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughter, Tara Dakins (grandchildren: Ethan and Evan); son, Todd (Kelly) Dakins (grandchildren: Kaleb and Khloe); godchildren: Keli Ramirez and Becky Vanden Boogaard; siblings: Jerry (Tommie) Dakins, Kathy Carnot, Bob (Deb) Dakins, Karen Schommer, and Bev Stingle and brother-in-law Mel DeBroux. He is further survived by Patty's family: Jane (Bob) Schaefer, Sandy (Dave) Broeren, Joseph (Laura) Smet, and brother-in-law, Bryan Vanden Boogaard.
Denny was preceded in death by his parents; Patty’s parents, Joe and Ceil Smet; siblings and in-laws: Audrey DeBroux, Cindy and Fred Zwoniarkiewicz, Tom Wulterkins, Marion and Doug Stewart, Bill Carnot, Ray Schommer, Reuben Stingle, Mary Vanden Boogaard.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at St. John Sacred Heart Parish, N369 Military Road, Sherwood. Visitation will take place at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 am until the time of mass.
We miss and love you. You will always be in our hearts.
