David L. Mayer, better known as “Bud,” sadly passed away on April 27, 2022 at the age of 84, but not without a fight as his passion for life was incredible! Born on January 13, 1938 to Lorenz (Corn) Mayer and Helen Walsh Mayer. Bud grew up in Kaukauna, WI where he graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1957. The very next day, he left to serve in the US Air Force for 3 years, ending in honorable discharge. Bud met Janis Lynch, the love of his life, in bed. True story…it was a hospital bed and Janis was the nurse! They married in 1960 and lived in Kaukauna, Combined Locks and Wrightstown while raising 3 children together. Or should we say Janis raised 4 children while being married to Bud AND all the “Kaukauna High Classmates” that meant the world to him. Bud’s career began at Giddings and Lewis of Kaukauna where he also served as the union’s president. He happily retired from AC Compressor of Appleton, only to go “FULL TIME” on the golf course, of course! When not participating, he officiated many sports over the years, including WIAA basketball, softball and his #1 passion being Amateur Boxing. Above all, “THE GREATEST HIGH” in Bud’s life was his wife, children and grandchildren...followed by cribbage, playing Santa, the Lions Club and more golf!
Bud is survived by his wife, Janis Mayer; his children: Bradley (Julie) Mayer, Lynn (Eric Hunner) Mayer and Vicki (Ric) Giordana; his grandchildren: Keane (Elizabeth) Mayer, Kayla Mayer, Krista (special friend George Owen) Mayer, Lacey (Michael Martinez) O’Connor, Riley (Jonathan) Ciak, Kyle (special friend Ally George) Anschutz and Ethan Anschutz; great grandchildren: Layla Mayer, Roland and Arthur Ciak; sisters: Nancy Jansen and Marlene Stuiber; and a sister-in-law, Karen Lynch. Bud is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death his parents; his mother and father-in-law: Joseph and Elizabeth Bruehl Lynch; his grandson, Ryan Mayer; brothers-in-law: Joddy Jansen and Ken Stuiber; in laws: Sylvester and Marian Lynch, Mildred and Elmer Wittman, Gordon Lynch, and Elizabeth and Steve Talbot.
