David Hugo Brueggeman, age 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday October 29, 2023 at Edenbrook of Appleton senior care facility. He was born on June 16, 1937 in Appleton, Wisconsin, the son of the late Hugo and Verona (Van Heuklon) Brueggeman. He graduated from Appleton High School with the Class of 1955 and proudly served in the US Army 32nd Division being called to Fort Lewis Washington during the 1961 Berlin Crisis. He was united in marriage to Rosemary Mies in 1959 and had two sons, Michael and Steven. He later married Marlene (Van Boxtel Killian) on June 17, 1983
David had a strong work ethic and worked as a monotype keyboard operator at George Banta Company before technology phased out the trade. He finished his employment years with Miller Electric until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of American Legion Post 258, Little Chute, WI. He was passionate about Northeast Wisconsin hunting and fishing and spent many years bird hunting with his dogs and deer hunting on his land near Scandinavia. He enjoyed fishing on the local lakes and streams and ice fishing with his homemade tip-ups. He was a Brewers and Packers fan, an avid reader of history and sports and took great pride in his yardwork. He especially loved going to his sons’ and grandchildren’s sports activities.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marlene; parents; brother James Brueggeman; daughter Jane Brueggeman; grandson Bret Brueggeman; stepfather George Hamilton; and mother-in-law and father-in-law Hilda and Norb Van Boxtel.
He is survived by his two sons: Michael (Kelly), Agoura Hills, CA and Steven (Renee), Greenville, WI; grandchildren: Briana, Alexa, and Elayna; Step children: Rob (Carrie), Freedom, WI, Barb (Don) Sobiesczyk, Freedom, WI, Kathy Montayne, Milwaukee, WI; and step grandchildren: Tiffany Killian, Matt Killian, Brock Killian, Madalyn Sobiesczyk, Katelyn Sobiesczyk, Lisa Jurgenson, Amber Killian, and Kevin Killian. He is also survived by great grandchildren: Ella and Lilly; nephews: Ronald and Kenneth (Becky) Brueggeman; niece Kennette (Guv) Mitchell; and many other nieces and nephews; step sisters: Joanne (Dennis) Geiger, Judy (Jim) Franzen; sister-in-law Allie (Dick) Suelflow; brothers-in-law: Dan Van Boxtel and Lee (Clare) Van Boxtel; and special hunting friends: Paul and Jamie Cleveland.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 225 E Harris St., Appleton, WI with Pastor Justin Shrum officiating.
