Daniel L. Nelson (Herb/Herbie) 66, February 10, 1959, passed away unexpectedly January 21, 2026. Survived by his wife of over 40 years, Jackie (Coenen), his son, two daughters, three grandchildren, two brothers, three sisters, and many good friends. Predeceased by his father, David Nelson (Shiocton) and mother, Karen Thompson (Viroqua).
Dan had a deep love and respect for the outdoors, especially hunting and time spent in the woods. He shared that love generously with his children and grandchildren, teaching them how to camp, hunt, fish, and appreciate nature. The woods were a place of comfort and peace for him and many of his happiest moments were spent there surrounded by family. Dan was a self-taught mechanic and long-time racer. He raced, built from the frame up, stock cars on various dirt tracks for many years (26N). He restored classic cars and scrapped in his spare time. He proudly owned and operated his own business, Dan's Tap Service.
Dan was loved immensely by his family and lived for his grandchildren. No matter the time or the cost, he always showed up for the people he loved, he was already on the way. He will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to actually know him.
A private family service was held and celebration of life will occur at a later date to be determined in which all friends and family will be welcome.
