Dan Verbeten, age 84, passed away in his sleep on Saturday, February 8, 2025. He was born on March 15, 1940, son of the late Howard and Mable (Huss) Verbeten. Dan graduated from Holy Cross Grade School in 1954, the first class to graduate from the new school. He then graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1958.
Dan married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Margie Ryan on November 15, 1960, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Dan worked at the Thilmany Paper Mill for 36 years, and also started Dan Verbeten Construction over 40 years ago. Dan worked tirelessly and took immense pride in his work. He was known around the valley for his attention to detail and great concrete work.
Dan’s home away from home was Holy Cross. He was involved with the Holy Cross Men’s Open Tournament for 58 years and was the director for 27 years. He was a past president of the athletic association and a coach for 20 plus years. Dan was also a member of the Army National Guard, the Kaukauna Lions Club, and was a WIAA basketball official in his younger years. Dan was honored to receive the Kaukauna Athletic Club Man of the Year award.
In his free time, Dan enjoyed his cottage on Shawano Lake where he spent many days fishing off his dock and ice fishing. He always said there was more fish in Shawano to catch! He loved his casino trips and watching the Packers, Brewers, Bucks, Badgers and the NCAA Tournament. If you drove by his house late in the evening, he would always be up watching sports on TV. Dan will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
