Cynthia A. “Cindy” Verhagen, age 69, of Little Chute, passed away at her home, surrounded by her loved ones, after a courageous 7 year battle against cancer. She was born on July 24, 1956, daughter of the late Richard and Grace (Hopfensperger) Jansen. She married Mark “Schmuck” Verhagen on November 7, 1980.
Cindy’s family was the center of her life. She loved her grandchildren beyond measure and treasured any time she could spend with them. Even in her final days, the light shown in her eyes when her grandsons were in the room. She was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, and grandmother. She could make you smile, wipe a tear, give life advice, and bake the most delicious treats. Cindy was an amazing cook and enjoyed baking, she was always the first to volunteer to bring a dessert when needed. She loved going out to eat and ordering her famous order of steak and lobster. Cindy crocheted many projects for family and friends and enjoyed giving her time to help anyone who needed it. Cindy put up a hell of a fight over the last several years. Cancer was determined to break her, but even through the toughest days, she fought. She will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.
Cindy is survived by her loving husband, Mark; son, Doug (Katie) Verhagen and his children: Beau and Bryce; stepson, David Verhagen and his children: Lexi, Gavin, Devin and Kylie; siblings: Nancy (Ron Kons) Vanevenhoven, Katie (Marty) Marash, Linda Gibson, Steve (Diane) Jansen, Julie (Bruce) Verhagen; brothers and sisters-in-law: Sandy Jacobi, Keith (Lynn) Verhagen, Barb (Leo) Schuh, Joyce (Ray) Schuh, Judy Zierler, Colleen (Tom) Geske and Lenny Hawley; numerous very special nieces, nephews, other relatives and many caring friends.
Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Grace Jansen; sister, Char (Jim) Bricco; father and mother-in-law, Dorothy and Ervin Verhagen; brothers and sisters-in-law: Bruce Vanevenhoven, Jimmie Gibson, Mary Hawley, Al Zierler and Chuck Jacobi; nephew, Eric Jansen.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home, 101 Canal Street, Little Chute, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. A celebration of her life will continue after at Hollanders Pub and Grill in Little Chute.
