Cory VerKuilen

Cory J. VerKuilen, 47, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, due to natural causes while enjoying a fall bike ride. He was born on May 9, 1975 to Donald and Joanne (Micke) VerKuilen.

Cory graduated from Kaukauna High School class of 1993. He received an Associate’s Degree from Fox Valley Tech. Eventually his work took him around the country as he toured with National Broadway Tours as a Carpenter and proud member of the Theatrical Stage Employees Local One – IATSE, New York Stagehands.

Not only was Cory a skilled creator and carpenter, but an avid outdoor enthusiast. Some of his favorite activities were biking, hiking, camping and golfing. His love for golf took him to the links of South Carolina where he was a groundskeeper. He returned “home” to be closer to family and worked as a finish carpenter with Showcase Kitchens.

Cory was also able to share experiences with friends and family that involved high-end bourbon, The Dave Matthew’s Band, strumming on his guitar, kayaking and camping in the mountains of Colorado.

Cory is survived by his mother, Joanne VerKuilen; brother, Donald (Aimee) VerKuilen Jr.; sisters: Deb (Tom) Hopfensperger, Vicki (Dave) Erdman and Becky Zellmer. He is further survived by his nieces and nephews. Cory was preceded in death by his father, Donald VerKuilen Sr.

Cory’s life wouldn’t be complete without mentioning his most beloved four-legged companion, Maggie, who has been with him since 2011. Maggie was Cory’s best friend and was with him through every high and low and has seen him through some of his most challenging times.

Cory was a beloved son, brother and uncle. This sudden and unexpected loss has created a deep sadness and void in our family, but memories of Cory and his spirit will forever live on within us.

Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at the Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home KAUKAUNA LOCATION, 2401 Fieldcrest Drive. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established to fund some of Cory’s favorite charities.
