Charles Cross entered eternal life on May 31.
Charlie was born on June 17, 1940, on the family farm in Kempster, WI. He is the son of the late Charles and Irma Cross. He grew up in Antigo, WI, along with his twin brother George, brothers Merv and Greg and sisters Sandy and Adella. He graduated from Antigo High School in 1959 where he lettered in three sports. After high school Charlie joined the US Navy where he sailed the Pacific Ocean as far as Hong Kong. He talked often of his travels to Japan, the Phillippines, and the Panama Canal. He served during the Bay of Pigs aboard the USS Bayfield.
After serving four years in the Navy, Charlie returned to Antigo where he met Kathy while she was attending Langlade County Teachers College. They were married in Crandon on November 25, 1965 at St Joseph Catholic Church. They moved to Neenah where Charlie began a thirty-four year career with American Can Company; first at the Neenah plant and ending in the year 2000 when he retired from the Menasha plant. Charlie held several positions while employed at American Can.
Charlie was a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather. His sons Tom and Mark were his greatest joy. Then came Reid and Brody who brought him great happiness as a grandfather.
Charlie enjoyed watching all sports, playing baseball in his young years, and golfing. He also cherished the time spent deer hunting with Tom, Reid and Brody at the cabin in Iola. In retirement Tuesday afternoons were very special as he played sheepshead with his buddies in Neenah.
Charlie was a member of Knights of Columbus and American Legion for many years.
Charlie is survived by his wife Kathy, son Tom (Kelli) Cross and grandsons Reid and Brody. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, son Mark and brothers George and Merv.
Burial will take place at a private ceremony next to his son Mark in Neenah, WI.
